Ethical Challenges in the Workplace-- Survey Participants Needed

Posted over 1 year ago by Wendy Grbach

Connie Ulrich, a Nurse Ethicist at University of Pennsylvania, and AACN member, is conducting a survey on ethics challenges in the workplace and would like to invite some of our chapter members to participate. The study is funded by the Agency for Healthcare Quality and Research and Dr. Connie Ulrich welcomes your thoughts to better understand these issues. See information below.

Nurses, have you faced ethics challenges?

Help ALL nurses by taking this confidential UPenn survey.

What ethics challenges do you face or have you faced as an RN on the job?

How have any such challenges affected your well-being?

Examples: Abuse by patients, families, other staff; racism; lack of support to report practice violations; pressure to care for more patients than is safe, or to carry out unnecessary orders; bullying; disrespect; fear of retribution for speaking out; Covid safety issues; conflicts of interest.

These are important questions that the University of Pennsylvania is asking to learn more about your nursing experiences. The answers will allow healthcare educators and ethicists to not only understand the issues, but also to evaluate potential resources to address those issues.

You'll need about 30 minutes to finish it, and you can even answer the questions on your phone. Instructions make completion easy, and all responses are confidential. For example, your name will never be placed on the survey.

Also be assured that the survey is free from any commercial or political interests.

Some of you may have already received a postcard from UPenn's Dr. Connie Ulrich asking you to complete the survey. If you've done so, there is no need to respond again. If you didn't respond, please do so by using either the link above or the link that was provided on the card.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email Dr. Ulrich at culrich@nursing.upenn.edu

Thank you, nurses, for all you do!

The UPenn ethics survey is funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality,

which is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

This email to PSNA members is paid for as part of that funding.
