Job Summary

A patient care technician is a committed and compassionate professional. They have great interpersonal skills and ability to create a supportive environment. Patient care technicians will be responsible for direct patient care and can be assigned as a patient sitter as needed.The goal of a patient care tech is to keep the patient safe and assist them with activities of daily living. An effective Patient Care Technician should have patience, empathy, and intuition to serve their patients best. They utilize therapeutic communication, organizational skills, and have a commitment to safety. Patient Care Technicians work alongside the registered nurse and clinical assistance while providing care for the patients and report to the nursing manager of the float pool.

Responsibilities

Job Skills Performs selected activities related to patient care and activities of daily living (daily bath, hair care, mouth care, change and clean incontinent patient, bed linen change). Planning Ensures rooms have adequate patient care supplies along with stocking the units as needed keeping the patient environment tidy and sanitized. Customer Focus Provides appropriate emotional support and companionship, embodies being empathetic and approachable while maintaining safety of themselves and the patients Monitoring Provides constant observation and monitoring of assigned patient to ensure safety and prevent injury with proper documentation. Safety Assists patients with issues or needs with support of the RN or CA and refrains from performing medical procedures or any unauthorized actions.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Light Work: Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 lbs. with a maximum lifting of 25 lbs. Knowledge of patient assistance and care procedures, prefer knowledge of relevant equipment (catheters, drains, assistance devices, etc.), Committed to health and safety standards.

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (Required)

Credentials

• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (Required)
